I have participated in the Venezuelan Chemistry Olympiad since 2014. My participation in the Olympiad has been a process of personal growth; the Olympiad has made me improve both at an academic level and a personal level. Science has a great importance for me, not only chemistry; it is the fusion of every kind of science what allows us to have a better understanding of the physical world in which we live. One of the people I admire in the field of science and as a person is Albert Einstein; not only is he considered one of the most important physicists in history, he also became an active ambassador for world peace

Since I was in the third year of high school, I have participated in the Venezuelan Chemistry Olympiad and I could not have made a better decision, thanks to the activities and experiences that the process entails, I discovered a love for this area. That is why it is understandable that both science in general and chemistry represent a large part of my life and mean everything to me; in fact, I would like to dedicate to its study in the future. Some of the people I admire the most in the world of science, would be Marie Curie because she did not let any stereotype or the fact that she was a woman in a male dominated field stop her and made great and important discoveries; and Humberto Fernández- Moran, renowned Venezuelan scientist who leaves the name of the country high, just as I aspire to do.

Every day I wake up and ask myself: what motivates me to learn more? It’s the feeling of doing the impossible and going beyond boundaries; and to me that is science. Science is more than a subject or knowledge, it’s a lifestyle. It’s wanting to create the foundation for a better world. In my case, I’ve been able to express that respect, admiration and love I have for science through the chemistry Olympiads. To me it represents a space where I can do what I love, while being creative and learning more about chemistry. I can get out of class or solve problems and explain why certain phenomenon happens by analyzing and working through the different variables. For me that moment when I can sit down and think about how everything happens, and ask all the questions what, why and how, has no comparison. And I feel in those moments I am truly myself.
