Hello! My name is Yulia and I hope to be your guide during the International Chemistry Olympiad. I have taken this job with great pleasure because the Hispanic culture always seemed interesting for me and because this job gives the opportunity to meet the most talented young people from both Spain and Latin America. I study philology, Spanish and Latin American literature, this academic year I’m going to make an investigation on Horacio Quiroga, the Uruguayan writer. It is difficult for me to talk about “hobbies” because there is a lot that I’d like to “investigate” one day: cinema, arts, natural sciences. However, I think that the most exciting thing of all is meeting people, communicating with people. Last summer, for example, I worked as a guide on the youth football championship. The match between Málaga and London was the first football match I’ve ever seen but we became such good friends with the players and the coaches of the Spanish team that now I have every right to call myself “a football fan”. That’s why I’m sure that we’ll become friends with you too, that you’ll have a great time here in Moscow and that it won’t be your last time in Russia. We will always be happy to welcome you back. One more thing: I’ve been to Spain several times and I like it a lot there but I’ve never been to Latin America and now it’s the biggest dream of mine.

¡Hola! Me llamo Yulia y espero ser su guía durante la Olimpíada Internacional de Química. Este trabajo es la oportunidad excelente de conocer a los jóvenes más talentosos de España y Latinoamérica por eso lo acepté con mucho gusto. Me interesa mucho la cultura del mundo hispánico, estudio literatura española y latinoamericana y este año voy a escribir mi trabajo de curso sobre las obras de Horacio Quiroga. He visitado España unas vecez y me encanta pero mi gran ilusión es hacer un viaje a América Latina algún día. Me cuesta trabajo decir cuales son mis “hobbies” porque me gustaría dedicarme a un montón de cosas, como cine, arte o ciencias naturales pero es imposible saber todo. Entonces lo más importante para mí es conocer a gente nueva. Por ejemplo, el verano pasado trabajaba en el campeonato juvenil de fútbol. El partido entre Málaga y Lóndres fue el primer partido de fútbol que he visto en toda mi vida pero para aquel momento nos habíamos hecho verdaderos amigos con los miembros del equipo español y me sentía todo un “fan”. Estoy segura de que seramos amigos con Ustedes también. Será una experiencia estupenda y si tendrán ganas de volver a Rusia, a nosotros siempre nos gustaría recibirles en Moscú.
